Good circulation is essential for healthy feet and legs. When blood flow is reduced, it can cause discomfort, affect mobility and slow down healing.
At Absolute Footcare, we offer an ABPI Lower Limb Vascular Assessment which helps identify possible circulation problems, giving you a clearer understanding of your vascular health and how to keep your feet healthy.
What is an ABPI Assessment?
ABPI stands for Ankle Brachial Pressure Index. It is a simple, non-invasive test that compares blood pressure in your ankles and arms.
Using a specialist Doppler ultrasound device, we assess blood flow to your lower limbs and check for signs of Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD), a condition where narrowed arteries restrict circulation, and other circulation issues.
Who Could Benefit?
An ABPI assessment may be helpful if you:
Experience leg pain or cramping when walking.
Frequently have cold feet or changes in skin colour.
Have wounds or sores that are slow to heal.
Have diabetes, high blood pressure or cardiovascular disease.
Have concerns about poor circulation.
Have been advised to have your circulation checked before compression therapy.
What Happens During Your Appointment?
We’ll begin by discussing your medical history and any symptoms you’re experiencing.
You’ll then lie back comfortably while blood pressure cuffs are placed around your arms and ankles. A Doppler ultrasound probe measures blood flow in your arteries.
The assessment is straightforward, requires no needles or injections and usually causes only temporary pressure from the cuffs.
We’ll explain your results clearly and discuss any recommended next steps, including referral for further investigation if needed.
