Physiotherapy focuses on assessing and treating problems affecting movement, strength, mobility and function. It’s often appropriate for people recovering from an injury, surgery or illness, as well as those experiencing ongoing pain or movement problems. Rather than only treating the area that’s painful, a physiotherapist will assess what’s contributing to the problem and develop a treatment plan based on the patient’s needs. The aim is to reduce symptoms, improve function and help patients manage their condition confidently.

Sports Massage or Physiotherapy?
There is some overlap between physiotherapy and sports massage. Physiotherapy is best when you have pain, an injury, weakness, or a movement problem you’d like to have assessed and treated. Whereas if your muscles are tight, tense, stiff, or tired, a sports massage is the treatment you need. To find out more about sports massage click here
Preparing for your Physiotherapy appointment
You should ideally bring with you or come to your appointment in comfortable clothing that allows the physiotherapist to assess the affected area and observe movement.
Examples include:
Knee, hip, or leg problems – Shorts
Shoulder problems – A vest top / sports bra
General – Comfortable clothing that allows movement
If you’d like to have someone with you, you’re welcome to bring a partner, friend, or family member
