Causes of Corns & Calluses
Corns and callus form as the skin’s natural protective response to repeated pressure or friction. When the skin experiences ongoing stress, it produces extra layers of hard skin to protect the underlying tissues.
Callus typically appears as larger, thicker patches of hardened skin.
Corns are smaller and more localised. A hard corn usually has a dense central core that presses into the deeper layers of skin, which can cause pain.
